Effects of Infection Control Barriers on Light Output from a Dental Light-Curing Unit Used in Various Positions

Light-curing units (LCUs) are often subject to clinician-determined factors such as infection control barriers (ICBs) and different positionings of the light tip that may reduce their radiant exposure. The objective this study was investigate individual cumulative effects ICBs LCU positioning on output. One used, in combination with five distances angles. were also tested when placed correctly manufacturers’ guidelines, creases or seams obstructing tip. All variables isolation other variables. Measurements taken from a laboratory-grade spectrometer, giving values exposure, irradiance spectral emission. ICBs, angles showed significant reductions output compared (p < 0.001). With increasing angle distance, decreased further, greatest reduction 80.6% seen at 40° 8 mm an incorrectly ICB. When used ICB, protective relationship increase distance/angle is unavoidable, clinicians should consider compensating for loss exposure by curing times.
